SIXTH GRADE MATH

The class will have a quiz tomorrow over mean, median, mode, and range. Be sure you understand how to find each of these! The lists of numbers will be pretty straightfoward without confusing decimals when finding the mean.

SEVENTH GRADE MATH

We discussed yesterday's lesson and worked on an activity lab from the textbook which was also about balances. The homework is to draw a picture of two different balances using the shapes from the book. Make one balance that balances and one balance that doesn't. Tomorrow, you will trade with your classmates and see if you can figure out their drawings.

SEVENTH GRADE GEOGRAPHY

We finished up their culture presentations today and discussed the pieces of a country quiz. The first quiz will be tomorrow. The students will use the website CIA World Factbook to look up the following pieces of information about each country:

Capital
Type of government
Head of Government AND their title (NOT head of state....sometimes this is a different person - especially in parliamentary democracies.)
Major Language (list all official languages or list languages that are spoken by a large percentage of the population)
Major Religion (list religions that are practiced by a large percentage of the population - if this is pretty even between several religions, list them - it's always better to put more than less)
Climate (list the main climate(s) for the country - sometimes there will be several climate regions within a country)
Population
Major Landform (mountain, mountain chain, desert, etc.)
Major Body of Water (major river, bay, major lake - Lake Hefner would not work for the US, but Lake Superior would) Do not list oceans or seas - bays will work when it is directly related to the country, such as Hudson Bay in Canada.
National Holiday - list the name AND date (such as Independence Day, July 4th for the  US)

If you ever have questions about what to use, please ask! Just don't wait until 5 minutes before a country quiz. These are easy to study for and will boost your grade. Don't wait until the last minute or forget to look up the facts.

At the website, capital, type of government, head of government, and national holiday can all be found under the heading "government". Major language, major religion, and population, can be found under "People and Society". Climate can be found under "Geography" and major landform and major body of water can sometimes be found by clicking on the map in the upper right. Another great source is your atlas!

 

PRE-ALGEBRA

We began working on adding and subtracting signed fractions and mixed numbers. There is no homework tonight. We will work on the assignment in class tomorrow.

The class finished their test today. No homework!
