SIXTH GRADE

We did not have regular math class because we were watching the news about the new pope! Tomorrow is Pi Day (3-14), so we will be celebrating....with pie and other pi/circle related activities. I will be holding a contest in all of middle school. The person who can recite the most digits in pi will win a prize. The students received a page with pi to many, many decimal places. I would like everyone to try to memorize as much as they can, even if they think they can't win. I'll see you all tomorrow for a day of fun!

SEVENTH GRADE

Math: The assignment for today is to write a story with inequalities, following the directions on the handout. Remember you have to use SIX inequalities in your story...not just four. Remember to try to memorize as many places of pi that you can! Tomorrow is PI DAY!!!!

Geography: We were watching the news about the new pope during Geography class today! It was very exciting for the kids. There is no homework.

EIGHTH GRADE

Pre-Algebra: We played a game in class today because they had a test yesterday. No homework except memorizing as many places of pi that you can!

Algebra I: Simplifying expressions with negative exponents. I made a video with some examples.

SIXTH GRADE

Some students need to finish their 10x10 grids with tissue paper tonight. Then, everyone needs to complete the accompanying worksheet. On the top half, you are listing the colors you used on your 10x10 grid and the percent, fraction, decimal, and money equivalent of each. Then on the bottom half, you will fill in the table. I made a video with examples of how to do this. Here it is!

SEVENTH GRADE

Math: We worked in class on identifying inequalities from real world situations. There is no homework.

Geography: We discussed the current events from yesterday's assignment and then the governments and independence of the South American countries. We will continue the discussion tomorrow.

EIGHTH GRADE

Pre-Algebra: The class took a test today. No homework!

Algebra I: Negative Exponents. p. 335 #7-22. Here is a video with some examples:

SIXTH GRADE

Today the class began a fun activity. Each student received a 10x10 grid on paper and a pile of small tissue squares in multiple colors. They will glue down the squares onto the grid and then determine the percent, decimal, and fraction for each color they use. We will continue tomorrow. There is no homework! But be sure to have the homework from Friday ready to turn in tomorrow. (Several students had trouble with some of them so I allowed an extra day.)

SEVENTH GRADE

Math: We spent the class time today going over the work from Friday. I allowed students to fix answers and check over their work. The assignment is due tomorrow.

Geography: Current Events. Everyone was assigned a country and looked up a current event during Computers class. Be sure to write a paragraph in your own words, explaining the news story. During class, we discussed the colonization of South America.

EIGHTH GRADE

Pre-Algebra: There is a test tomorrow over Linear Equation and Inequality Applications. Be sure to go over the review!

Algebra I: p. 327 #59-88. ALL. These are the same as Friday. Let me know if you get stuck!

See you tomorrow,

Mrs. Swickey

SIXTH GRADE

Changing percents to decimals and decimals to percents. Remember, to change a percent to a decimal, move the decimal point two places to the left. To change a decimal to a percent, move the decimal point two places to the right. Here's a video!

SEVENTH GRADE

Math: Multiplication and Division Inequalities. I made a video for you!

Geography: We took notes over ancient civilizations of South America. No homework.

                       EIGHTH GRADE

I didn't have either class as they were working on their auction projects today.

See you tomorrow!

SIXTH GRADE

Today, you are changing unfriendly fractions and percents. I made another video, so hopefully it will work tonight. I'm going to try to figure out how to get the other one to upload as well. There is a problem with my app communicating with YouTube.

SEVENTH GRADE

Math: Solving one-step inequalities. I made a video with a few examples. Hopefully, it will load and not be a problem!

Geography: No homework. We discussed ancient civilizations and the Nazca lines. Here is a link to the video on that if you want to watch it again. The second link is to a video with a lot of pictures of the Nazca lines.

BBC Short Documentary

Video with Pictures

EIGHTH GRADE

Pre-Algebra: The class wrote their own story problems to match the linear equations. They were very creative!

Algebra I: Dividing Polynomials by Binomials. I made a video. Hopefully my app will upload it to YouTube correctly today.

See you tomorrow!

SIXTH GRADE

Percents to Fractions and Fractions to Percents. I made a video for you with examples! Remember, to change a percent to a fraction, just write the percent over 100 and then reduce it. For the percents that are over 100%, such as 115%, you would first write the whole number 1, because once it's over 100% that means you have one whole. Then, change the 15% to a fraction and write it next to the 1. I have an example in the video, but 115% would change to 1 3/20. Your assignment is the entire page.

SEVENTH GRADE

Math: Graphing inequalities on a number line and writing an inequality from a graph.

Geography: The class took a performance assessment over North America today and then began on the South America map activity. The map activity is due tomorrow!

EIGHTH GRADE

Pre-Algebra: Linear Inequality Applications. If you are stuck, send me an email or text! I'll be happy to help.

Algebra I: More dividing monomials including polynomials by monomials. Be ready for long division with polynomials tomorrow! I made a video with a few examples.

See you tomorrow!
