SEVENTH GRADE

We continued working on indirect measure. We also discussed scales and using a scale on a map or a model. The homework is the worksheet with 8 questions. Be sure to draw a picture of the indirect measure problems.

SIXTH GRADE MATH

Today's assignment is the order of operations and evaluating expressions page. Remember PEMDAS when doing order of operations. And most importantly, remember that when doing multiplication and division, you do WHICHEVER COMES FIRST. That means if a division sign is before a multiplication, then divide first. The same works for addition and subtraction.

We have been working all week on our Save The Penguins STEM unit during both Math and Science. It's been so much fun! There is no homework.

We did some activities in class, learning a little about linear relationships.

Factoring by Grouping. page 370. You are doing 10 problems but I don't remember the numbers!

Here is a video I made last year. Pay attention to the one where you have to factor out a number before you start factoring by grouping. I think your last problem is like that.

The test over operations with fractions is tomorrow! Be sure to finish up any problems we skipped on the test review. It is a great way to practice for the test!

SEVENTH GRADE MATH

Solving one step inequalities. Remember, solve these the same way you would solve equations. You will add or subtract whatever is on the same side as the variable. Be sure to do it to both sides. Then check to see if your variable is on the left. If not, FLIP everything around. Then graph the inequality on the number line.

SEVENTH PRE-ALGEBRA

The class took a test today. No homework!

EIGHTH PRE-ALGEBRA

Graphing Linear Inequalities and then finding if a point is a solution. Remember, it is a solution if it is in the shading. If the point is right on the line, it's a solution only if the line is solid. If the line is dashed, it is not a solution.

ALGEBRA I

Dividing Polynomials. You are doing #14-24 evens on page 350. Here is a video I made LAST YEAR. I mention Thursday but obviously you didn't learn this on Thursday. Also, you will notice I draw the division box a little differently. It doesn't change anything though! Just watch the video.

Your homework today is multiplying fractions. Page 263 #2-20. Remember to look at your notes! Cross cancel whenever you have numbers in the numerator and denominator with a common factor.

SIXTH GRADE

Today's homework is more practice with subtracting mixed numbers. Remember to first find a common denominator and make equivalent fractions. If you can't subtract the numerators, borrow from the top whole number. The new numerator for the top fraction will be the denominator PLUS the numerator. Then subtract. Don't forget to simplify if you can!

SEVENTH GRADE

The class played a math game today. No homework!

SEVENTH GRADE PRE-ALGEBRA

x and y intercepts. Remember, to find the x intercept, plug 0 in for y in the equation and solve for x. To find the y intercept, plug 0 in for x and solve for y. The last two problems have a couple of easy fractions. If you are stuck on those, I will help you in class tomorrow.

EIGHTH GRADE PRE-ALGEBRA

We worked on an in class activity today. No homework!

ALGEBRA I

Multiplying Polynomials. page 327 #10-42. On #10-20, you are just using distributive property because you are multiplying a monomial by a polynomial. On #22-34, you will use a box divided into four squares. On #36, follow directions. For #38-42, you will use a box divided into six squares. Write the trinomial across the top (3 columns) and the binomial on the left (2 rows). Don't forget to combine like terms!

SIXTH GRADE

I passed out progress reports today and all graded papers. The students took the rest of class time to work on corrections or missing assignments. Be sure to ask your child for the progress report. Some students need to return the report with a signature. If the signature line at the bottom is highlighted, please sign and return to me tomorrow. I will be glad to give it back if you would prefer to have a copy.

SEVENTH GRADE PRE-ALGEBRA

The class will have a test over percents tomorrow. Be sure you are going over your review! Here are how you work the last two problems.

#15. The selling price of a 32GH iPad Air is $730. If Wal Mart is selling them at a 30% discount, what is the sale price?

First, since you know the discount percent, you need to multiply that by 730. 730 x 0.3 = 219.

Since it is a discount, you then subtract the 219 from 730 to find the selling price. 730-219 = $511.00

#16. Best Bu buys a Nikon DSLR camera at cost for $220. If they mark the price up 85%, what is the selling price?

First, notice that this is a markup problem and you have the percent. Multiply $220 by 0.85 to find the markup amount. 220 x 0.85 = 187

Now, add that amount to 220 to find out how much Best Buy will sell them for. 220 + 187 = $407.00

That's it!

The homework for today is more systems of equations. This time, you get to choose the method you want to use to solve. Remember, it will be easier to solve by elimination if they are already written with the x and y terms on the same side. Substitution is easier if one of the variables is alone. Graphing is easier if they are written in slope intercept form. Please let me know if you have any questions!
